This is the Greece I love

‘The Colossus of Maroussi’ by Henry Miller is one of the most fascinating books ever written about modern Greece. Fascinating because it describes a true Greece in its solitude, just like a small piece of eternity touching the shallowness of our time. This Greece may no longer exist. However, while reading ‘Colossus,’ you feel as though ‘that’ Greece endures in the depth of your soul.” This is an extract from an article written by Takis Theodoropoulos a few years back in the newspaper TA NEA and I can’t help but say that they beautifully express the feelings of each one of us “I was instantly mesmerized by Argolida, the first time I saw it, my very first impression of it. This place could well be the most ancient in Greece.”

“Greece is familiar to us all. […] It is what we hope earth could be if it were given the chance.” “Greece will survive all these ideas of ‘Progress;’ it will assimilate, destroy and recreate everything that now seems essential to life. Here all things serve their primary purpose. They return to their roots.”

(Excerpts from “The Colossus of Maroussi” by Henry Miller.) Have a wonderful Greek Summer!

P.S. If you happened to have read the July Robb Report, you will have noticed the fullpage report on the new Amanzoe Resort in Ermionida in the “Grand Openings” section of the magazine. This is the Greece that is resisting, persevering and drawing the attention of the international community. This is the Greece we all love …
